Persons of Indian origin holding multiple entry X-visas, visiting India for family reunions or social visits, must register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of their initial arrival, but only if they plan to remain in the country for more than 180 consecutive days.
Who needs to apply for FRRO?
All foreigners, including those of Indian origin, who arrive in India on long-term visas such as Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa, Employment Visa, Missionary Visa, and Project Visa, must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) within 14 days of their arrival.
This registration is required regardless of the duration of their stay. However, Business Visa holders are only required to register with the FRRO/FRO if their total stay in India on a Business Visa exceeds 180 days within a calendar year.
